What do you do at Home Property Lawyers?
I am responsible for the management of the Company's strategy, optimising performance, finances & budgets. I oversee risk management, HR matters and relationships between the Company and our clients.
I lead the HPL management team to ensure we secure the right level and type of work, provide our clients with a high level of service and support and our employees with a career & happy working environment.
What’s your career background?
I began my career back in 1984 as a trainee legal executive. Whilst working and specialising in residential conveyancing I studied and in 1994 I qualified as a fellow of the institute of Legal Executives.
In 2000 I attended a 4 year course at Leeds Business School to complete a Masters in Business Administration.
I was a Conveyancer acting for clients until 1999 when I went into management. I do still have a small caseload but largely my role is one of management.
I love it! Although the process of conveyancing is largely structured, it’s never boring. Every client and case is different, I enjoy getting to know my clients, understanding their situation and helping them with their move.
With over 35 years’ experience, I like using that knowledge to proactively progress transactions, pre-empt issues and resolve problems. Ringing clients to confirm we have exchanged and secured their sale or the purchase of their dream house is a great feeling, equally confirming completion and that keys can be handed over makes everyone happy.
I’m very protective of conveyancing, Conveyancers and conveyancing gets a bad press, some factors can make it seem that the process is not always a pleasant one but certainly at HPL our aim is to help and support clients through their move.
What do you love about working at Home Property Lawyers?
The people. Managing the business involves a whole range of people who have responsibilities for a variety of tasks. We are so lucky to have a fantastic team who are committed, enthusiastic and good fun.
It’s nice to see people working together and forming friendships. We’ve even had a few marriages which is always nice to see!
I love to see people progressing within the company. We have a Succession Plan to support people’s progress and we always aim to recruit for vacancies internally to provide career progression.
We always have a variety of projects to work on and there is never a shortage of people willing to assist with them.
What makes your house a home?
My open plan kitchen. I love cooking and entertaining and it’s great to do that in the presence of my friends and family.
